Co-Port Captains: Marc and Kirk Traver: The morning seemed just great in Manistee on the river! Captains Kirk Traver, Dave Zawacki, Chis Christoph and Larry Tabaka made it out of the pier heads to get the day started. Captain Kirk said at the end of the morning “Fun and wet going out in the dark in solid four footers. Slow and easy. Set up with the waves in 130’ of water. Not too bad of a troll with two Lakers and two Cohoes caught.”
Salty Dog Captain and crew had a good day on the rough water trolling with the waves. They started with a small king and then a triple – Downrigger rod – 24 lbs king; 10 color lead core – 28.6 lbs king, and a 200’ copper had a small Laker. They had a break off later and ended the morning with a 12 lbs Coho on 300’ of copper!
Lunch had been ordered from Family Fare late in the week and delivered by the Hutton family as scheduled at 12:30 pm. About half of the expected crewmembers were still in town to visit and have a meatloaf dinner. A very nice way to end the tournament day which was cancelled as a tournament! It was a beautiful day on shore but still rough on the Lake! For those that did not fish, it was a very peaceful and restful morning!
We will look forward to better weather next year!
