Port Captain Chris: There were 11 boats. The weather was slightly questionable – Thursday and Friday, pretty decent on Saturday. It
was quite evident the salmon were bigger this year than for many years. Tug Boat caught a 27+ lber Friday increasing everyone’s anticipation for Saturday. If you found the bait fish you were hot and heavy in the salmon – I mean heavy. These fish were real ornery and stubborn this year. It took many minutes and boat maneuvers to land these beasts. They went high, low, left, right, in and out all in a matter of seconds. Fishin Fools had to clear lines
twice this weekend to land a couple of the orneriest ones. I have not done that in 15 years. In the end, every boat caught fish and 15 of the 41 weighed were very close to or over 15 lbs.
Captain Chris Thompson on Fishin’ Fools took first place with 5 of 7 fish weighing 70 pounds (only 3 kings weighted per the rules).
