My buddy and I fished 12/19 w/a guide from “Betts Outfitters” on the Muskegon River. Our guides name was “Jimmy B” a young man that was fun to fish with and hooked us up pretty well. We went 6 in the net and lost 4. Good day for mid Dec. The conditions were great for fishing … low to mid 40’s with very light wind and over cast skies. Water temp about 40 degrees.
He had my buddy fishing with a single orange bead just above a NO. 8 caddis hook. I was using fresh steelhead spawn bags. Both were equally productive. Most of our action was between 10 and 11 A. One hole really turned on about that time hooking 5 fish. Dang, it was tough trying to fish and make refreshments? I told Jimmy B to fish, as I was busy!
All fish were in the 7 to 9 lb. range. 5 males and one female. All fish were very fresh (Chromers) with the exception of one male that I caught was a pretty dark male, double stripper, hook jaw, nice!
I would recommend anyone interested in fishing the Muskegon to check out Betts Outfitters Website for information. Click on “ Fishing Reports” for latest pictures and it’s contents explaining methods and baits.
If anyone would like to talk to me about this fishing trip feel free to contact me…. I am listed in the MWS club directory.
Hope you all have a great holiday! (I hope to get one last trip to the Little Manistee before it closes on 12-31). It’s all about the weather and water conditions now.
