Port Captain Dave Zawacki: Dave coordinated the weekend tournament to coincide with the Lake Shore Motel (LSM) 27th Annual Steelhead Tournament. There were sixteen Metro West Members and four guest at the MWS tournament and sixty eight, including Metro West members, in the LSM tournament. Most of the MW anglers fished from the shore – ten on the north shore and three on the south shore in front of the motel. One boat fished the river with three anglers.
Start time was 6:30 am (in the dark) and lines were pulled by 3 pm. The Metro West weigh in was held at the 4 pm at the motel with one fish caught. Marc Traver was the lucky angler to land an 8.45 pound beauty. Bill Gagnon lost one during the morning when his line snapped when it came into contact with another line. Dave Zawacki lost one after an enjoyable fight; his steelie won the battle when the hook came out – not enough barb left per the angler. Jeff Bustos, Captain Doug Rogers and Scott Maddox (new member) lost three on the river. So there were fish out there.
There were a total of 19 fish caught for the LSM tournament. Motel owner Paul won the event with a 15.3 pound steelhead – what a beauty!! He and his friends have been running the tournament for 27 years and this is the first time he has won the fall event. Paul also caught the second largest steelhead. Marc’s fish came in eleventh!!
The banquet was held Saturday evening with most of the meal catered by Dave Z. (this has been the tradition for many years). Great eats had by all!! Metro anglers did not win any of the prize money (selected by raffle not fish size) this year but have done in the past. Bill Gagnon did win a very nice 50/50 raffle; lots of smiles on Bill,s face!!!! And lots of cheers from MW anglers!
